In the wake of recent information regarding leaks of private data of users, the Brazilian Senate has held a public audience about its data protection project bill.

The Senator Ricardo Ferraço, rapporteur of the bill, in his opening speech, has pointed the importance that the new legislation found an equilibrium between the protection of the users and the innovation on the digital economy. He has also stated that it is necessary that the new legislation do not hamper citizens internet access.

Many speakers have emphasized the importance of the Brazilian private data protection law do not distance itself of others legislation about this matter.

It was highlighted the merits of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how the Brazilian legislative could transpose these law to Brazil.

Another point greatly said about this matter it was how it would be easiest to companies comply with data protection laws with they have similar dispositions.

Also, the Federal Deputy Orlando Silva – who is part of the Special House Committee that analyzes the Lower House private data protection project bills – was present in the public audience, reinforcing the expectation of a possible agreement between the Houses.

It is hoped that the Brazilian data protection law will be soon voted, integrating the country with the international trend of protection.
